Putting Fingers to Keyboard.....#WQ...Theme: Belly Laughing

It's another week of  Wednesday Quotes, hosted by Marsha from Always Write. If you're interested in joining, you can find more about #WQ here

This weeks theme is belly laughing. Oh the often elusive belly laugh. I think we can all admit we don't do it enough. I mean, we don't even laugh enough on a daily basis, let along belly laugh.

Just last Sunday night we had a couple of my daughters friends over and we played a game. At one point, one of the girls said something that just struck me as so funny, I had a true case of the belly laughs. It felt so good. A month or so ago during our busy time at work, we happened to run out of TP, our boss said she would get some. It was an hour or so later and we realized she hadn't come yet, so one of my coworkers went into the bathroom, sat on the toilet and took a picture pretending she was still waiting. For whatever reason, it struck the 3 of us who were working as so funny we belly laughed until we were crying. We need more of those times. More belly laughs. Maybe that's why I love watching funny videos and reading funny memes. I want to laugh more. I don't want to just type "LOL", I want to truly and deeply, Laugh Out Loud.

Laughter is vital to our mental, emotional and physical health, thus, I want to spend my life laughing...and if life is hard, I want to be determined to find something to laugh at or someone to laugh with.

What are benefits of laughing? It seems like we shouldn't even need to list these, but there are people who do not laugh, who are, what we call, "sourpusses", who can't seem to find joy or laughter in anything. I laugh fairly easily and sometimes at things that maybe shouldn't be laughed at...like a mishap I have, or something that should be frustrating..but I figure "I can't change this so I might as well laugh". My husband does not always find humor in this.

Back to the benefits:

* boosts the immune system
* reduces levels of stress hormones
* lowers blood pressure
* reduce bouts of depression
* improves lung function
* fights anxiety

I'm sure there are many other benefits as well.

I've always loved laughing and when I really laugh, I laugh loud. The above and below photos were about 2 years after graduating HS and we were attempting to go rollerskating. I was not very good. Then trying to figure out how in the world to use the bathroom without falling.

Sitting on our college dorm room laughing about who knows what!

The lesson: Just laugh. Find reasons to laugh. Make reasons to laugh. Laugh every day!

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. I love this post, Kirstin. I was a roller skater, but I did a ton of laughing and falling. You reminded me of a funny story that my friend played on my mom. My friend was pregnant and had been feeling a little bloated. Mom was driving, and Pam was in the back seat with a whoopee cushion. Every few minutes she would press on the cushion and apologize and talk about how bad it was. After a few minutes, Mom was laughing so hard and she was apologizing to Pam for laughing. We stopped for gas - in Oregon and the gas attendant could see what we were doing and how it affected my mother. We were about rolling out of the car. By the time Mom got to work, we told her. She was so mad at us, but we still all had a great laugh. I'm sure my mom had sore ribs all day.
