Putting Fingers to Keyboard....#WQ Theme....Resolutions vs. Word of the Year

It's another week of  Wednesday Quotes, hosted by Marsha from Always Write. If you're interested in joining, you can find more about #WQ here

This year Marsha decided to change the name of this little party to Wednesday Quotes. Still the same idea just a different name.

Todays theme is around resolutions vs. a word of the year. I was never a fan of resolutions, but for so many years I never even heard of a "word of the year" so I made resolutions only to not fulfill them. I knew people who were disciplined at this, but not me. Then along came word of the year. I remember thinking "I like this, this I can do". I believe I have been choosing a word of the year for the last 4 years. Here's what my words have been;
Unfold, Shine, Cultivate, Breathe. I usually choose my word sometimes from a list someone posts, or a song I hear, a book I'm reading or see the title for...whatever grabs my heart.

My word for 2023 is Savor. I hadn't quite picked a word, and then I picked up the devotional that a friend got me by Shauna Niequist called Savor:Living abundantly where you are, as you are. I thought some more about that word. I love savoring my food, taking my time while I eat, sometimes my husband makes fun of me (teasingly of course) about the time I put into plating my food and taking my time eating it. I love going slowly on a walk and taking in things around me. "There's something more to this word", I thought, so I looked up the definition.

Savor = taste (good food or drink) and enjoy it completely; regarding a moment or experience or memory...intentionally focusing your attention on the positive aspects of it, taking the time to appreciate and enjoy it.

The thought that came to me as I wrote those definitions was that savoring is the process of taking the time to slow down and notice something and experience it fully.

The more I think about it, the more excited I get about this word and what it might mean to me. What will I savor, how will I lean into this word? I don't know all the answers yet but I'm excited to discover them and I think the following quotes I found are very fitting. The first quote I shared above says it perfectly!

I love this quote...because I love taking photos.

Here's to an amazing year of working out our Words or resolutions, whichever you choose.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Savor is the perfect word for you Kirstin. I love it. You are a natural savorer. You help others slow down and enjoy what is perfect in life and appreciate it. Thanks for being such a faithful WQer. This is the start of our third year together!
