Putting Fingers to Keyboard.....#WQW...Theme: Food: Delicious Delights

It's another week of  Writer's Quotes Wednesday, hosted by Marsha from Always Write. If you're interested in joining, you can find more about #WQW here.

At the first of the year we are changing to #WQ Wednesday Quotes.

This weeks theme is around food, specifically Delicious Delights. The beauty of themes is that we can take liberty in our interpretations. When I think of this theme, I think of yes, food in general, but I think the Christmas season is synonymous with Delicious Delights. From sweet to savory there are some things that only make an appearance during the holidays, at least at our house. There are certain foods we get excited about having this time of year.  I LOVE baking and cooking during the holiday season and though I don't do it near enough I love it when I can spend time in my kitchen with Christmas music playing while I cook or bake.

The word delight is used to describe someone or something that brings great joy, pleasure, excitement. I would say food definitely does that.

I always say that one way I show love to people is by cooking for them...feeding them. Nourishing them. My mom was good at this and so is my mother in law. Feeding people brings us great joy. The title of one of my new cookbooks (that I need to use) is called Feed These People by Jen Hatmaker. I just love that title.

In my world, bread is a delicious delight! I would probably take homemade bread over dessert any day and I love dessert...but not as much as bread. I love making bread. Something about working with the dough, smelling it bake in the oven, slathering soft butter over a warm slice! YUM.

The other dish that makes an appearance only once a year is Clam Chowder. I've made this for so many years. It's a hit...so much so that when we go to restaurants, my daughter compares every clam chowder she tries to mine...and so far has only found one she has liked close to the same. If you like clam chowder, try this recipe

I also got a pasta maker for my birthday. I also love pasta, and have always wanted to make it. Just something about creating food from scratch is satisfying. Maybe I'm getting off topic, but I don't think so, I think that anything we love and put love into, with the desire to nourish, classifies as delicious and delightful.

Homemade cinnamon rolls make their appearance every Christmas Morning. I don't really make them any other time, and if I even hint at doing something different, I get the "evil eye". They are so good, with a dollop of a copycat Cinnabon frosting on top.

I love trying new recipes and these turmeric chocolate cookies were a pleasant surpise.

Yes...I love this! Even though this isn't necessarily to do with delicious delights, I think it is because often, the most basic, simple thing becomes a delight because of what we put into it...love, soul, meaning...a simple, basic cookie becomes so much more.

My father in law loves german chocolate cake. One year my mother in law requested that I make him one for his birthday. I said okay, however, because I don't like coconut, I didn't try any of it to see if it tasted good. Thankfully according to everyone else, it did. Phew.

For my granddaughters 1st birthday, I made a bunch of yummy GF/DF cake pops. Also some that were not, but one thing I've come to mostly enjoy is creating things that everyone can enjoy, and I know many with food allergies and/or intolerances or preferences. Sometimes it can be overwhelming, but my care and love for them overrides the feeling.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Kirstin, your quotes are fabulous, but your food, mmmmm I'm coming right through this screen to try some of them! I guess I need to start baking. My favorite thing to make right now is soup. It's so cold, and nothing is as perfect at dinner as soup. :) Have a great week, my friend. Thanks for sharing these snippets of your life.
