Wednesday Hodgepodge.......

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

1. Share one happy moment/memory from the holiday season. Oh boy. Just seeing the excitement on my grandsons face to be with everyone, open gifts. He's 3 1/2 and everything to him was so cool and exciting.

2. Let's be reasonable with our expectations going into this new year, k? What is one thing you'd like to accomplish/improve/complete/do in 2022? On a practical side, getting into our new addition, so organizing and figuring out how to set the kitchen up etc. I share updates in my Weekend Coffee Share posts, but hopefully I'll share a full post on it when it's done. On a personal level, I want too really do more reading, and writing.

3. Every January 1st (since 1976) Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse or just general uselessness (go here to read more about how the words are chosen). Here are the words/phrases they'd like to see banished in 2022-

wait, what?-no worries-at the end of the day-that being said-asking for a friend-circle back-deep dive-a new normal-you're on mute-supply chain

Which of these words/phrases do you use regularly? Which of these words would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word/phrase not on the list you'd like to add? I did not know this was a thing. How funny! Well, I use "no worries" a lot. Can the F-bomb be added to the list because sometimes I think it is waaaayyy overused and I hate it..lol.

4. Best thing you ate in the month of December? Definitely clam chowder. Oh, and cinnamon rolls.

5. January 5th is National Bird Day. Are you a bird lover? What's your favorite bird to see in the wild? Choose a phrase from the list that follows and tell us how it relates to your life currently...eat like a bird, bird's eye view, early bird, bird-brained, free as a bird, a little bird told me, or kill two birds with one stone. I do love birds, as far as a favorite, I love bald eagles, cardinals, anything that makes a pretty song. I've always been fond of red winged blackbirds.

If I choose one phrase, it would be, early bird. I'm an early riser. Even on weekends I don't like sleeping in late...7:30 would be "late" for me. I'm normally up at 5:00 during the week. But I don't set an alarm on weekends unless I have to. I enjoy getting up early and exercising (though I don't totally enjoy that) and getting things accomplished before I have to go to work.

6. Insert your own random thought here. 2021 was quite a year. Full of ups and downs, joy and heartache. I'm looking forward to seeing what 2022 brings. We were snowed in on our hill for about 3 days after Christmas and that was beautiful, but I missed 3 days of work and felt so bad. Looking forward to some fun hodgepodge posts, getting our house done, creating new habits and working on more self-care and enjoyment of things I love.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

    1. Funny how we change isn't it. Sometimes it's not easy getting out of bed that's for sure.

  3. Has your after-Christmas snow melted now? My brother and mom in KY got 9" yesterday. I just love the stuff but of course in El Paso, I don't deal with the headaches snow can bring.

I was sad not to have been with our 2 year old grand at Christmas. The little ones' delight in Christmas is infectious.

Clam chowder sounds divine. I am freezing this afternoon but it is 60+ degrees outside. Not sure what is going on, maybe a bug? Anyway, I could definitely go for a big bowl of chowder.

    1. Our snow finally melted but it hung on for a week in the yards. Yes, my daughter and hubby were in Texas when that snow hit in 2021...with a new baby. They lost power in their apartment and had to go live with her hubby's brother and family for almost a week. I hope you're feeling better. The chowder is a winner. The recipe is here on the blog if you ever want to try it.

  4. Yes, the children are the best part of Christmas. I use "no worries" too! Yum on the food you ate. I am usually up with the sun although I stay up late too. I picked eat like a bird because I need to!! Sorry about missing work because of the snow but snow is such a beautiful peaceful sight.

  5. I just discovered your blog from your comment on mine. Thank you so much for visiting and I can tell by reading your "About Me," that we share a love by and for the Father. It is so good to meet a fellow sister in Christ. And I could not agree more with the removing the "F" word completely from all use of the English language. Your family is beautiful and I look forward to visiting with you more.
