#WQWWC.....December 1 Theme: Toys/Play

This weeks theme is play/toys. Why is it that it seems like kids aren't playing as much, for as long as they used to (they seem to grow up too fast, give up their favorite toys and make believe play way too soon) and as adults we don't stop and take the time to play and enjoy life. We look down on having "toys" as adults. We see it as selfish or whatever else comes to mind. We glorify work, and time crunches and busyness. Whereas, some of our best creativity comes from playing, relaxing, enjoying something we love. 

Play: 

*engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose.

*Take part in

Toy:

*an object for a child to play with 

*move or handle absentmindedly or nervously

*Consider (an idea, movement, or proposal) casually or indecisively.

Having grandkids definitely helps me remember to take time to play...I have no problem getting down on the floor and playing motorcycles with my grandson and pretending I'm a T-Rex or a Power Ranger or buying ice cream from his ice cream stand. My mom was that way too. 

My favorite "toy" right now would be my camera for sure. Also perhaps my bike, I enjoy bike rides. Maybe even my kitchen because I love to bake and cook, or my computer because I love to blog. I LOVE playing games and doing puzzles. Embroidery, crafting. Play for me would also include hiking, biking, paddle boarding. All of these things bring me enjoyment, relaxation and creativity. I also playing word games on my phone and other games that help activate my brain.

Some of my favorite activities below! 

Books and embroidery...I spent many hours in 2020 doing these two things since I usually went right to work and then home. 

Hiking brings me relaxation and enjoyment especially when there's no pressure to hurry. 

Paddle boarding for the first time last August on the Columbia River. I loved it. 

My camera goes everywhere with me!

My girls played soccer and golf (oldest daughter). It taught them so much when it comes to not only skills but teamwork, confidence, character lessons.

I always enjoy going to a good "play". I've seen a few high school plays, but have yet to go to a broadway show. 

Play is so important in our lives. Kids need toys in order to develop and grow in skills and imagination. 

I think that as adults, we don't do this enough. I get that we have to make a living, we have to be able to pay the bills, but I also believe we have to be willing to do the things that make us come alive. Maybe it won't be as a job, but not being so bogged down with life that we don't take time to actually "enjoy" life.

Yes, yes, and yes. And now I can add my grandchildren's. My grandson just wants to play non-stop. He loves playing with us, and we love it right back.

My youngest daughter posted the above photo a few years ago, and I loved it. She also posted the quote below that she wrote herself.
