Wednesday Hodge Podge....All Things France

It's time for Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce, who blogs at From This Side of The Pond.  Each week she'll pose some questions for us to answer. What a great way to journal life.

This weeks questions are all about France, and a few other things. so let's see what my answers are:

1. Tell us about one small blessing you have counted this past week? We reconnected with a couple from college last Sunday. It was simple, and so nice to get together.

2. Bastille Day is celebrated on July 14th...have you been to France? First, I had to look up what Bastille Day was. I have never been to France. Oh wait, yes I have...lol. I forgot that when we visited Europe in 2019 we spent our last night over the Swiss border in I believe in what is called Ferney-Voltaire. We were flying out of Geneva and the best deal we found was in France. It was a cute little area, and while we wanted to try some authentic french food, there were only a handful of restaurants open and they didn't have what we were looking for so we actually settled on Italian, and can I tell you it was amazing. We did find a french bakery and bought dessert and walked around. Also, when we visited Basel, there is on spot on the river that you are literally seeing the borders of France, Germany and Switzerland. That was cool.   Any desire to visit or re-visit, and if so what site or city would you want to see? I love new places so yes, I would love to visit France more fully. I suppose I could enjoy seeing Paris, but I also think I'm all about smaller, picturesque towns.
Relaxing at our Hotel in France before flying home from a 2 week trip to Europe.

Cute little market in France.

Walking down cobblestone streets

There was a cute little bakery that was about to close but we were able to grab a few desserts and some bread.

At the Dreilandereck Tripoint...where France, Germany and Switzerland meet.

We almost ate at this cafe but they only served small bites and we were hungry.

In Switzerland looking across the river to France. Cute church.

Another one of the French streets.

3. A food associated with France that you love?
I'm not sure. I do love macarons...i think those are French. I'd probably love coq au vin and boef bourguignon. I do love crepes.

4. Something you recently purchased where a coupon was involved? Groceries. Do you regularly shop with coupons? Usually I'll get on my Safeway App and use their online coupons. I will totally use coupons if they're available.

5. You have to give something away this week. What will it be?I would give away a book or two.

6. Insert your own random thought here: I have a long work week so I'm looking forward to the weekend, even though it's going to be a busy one, it will be filled with friends and family. My grandsons birthday party Saturday, and a gathering with friends on Sunday.

    1. It is so beautiful. We said it was the PNW on steroids. Much of the same geography.

  4. Most places, both here and abroad, I prefer the small towns and villages, dining with the locals, and hitting the less well known sites, although I enjoy those too. I mean you can't go to Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre, right? Enjoy your busy weekend. Our entire July has been that way, but it's been fun too.

    1. I totally agree...I want the local feel for things. Maybe throw in a few touristy things, but otherwise I want to see how people live.

  7. Loved seeing all these photos from your trip! I went to France for a week when I was in high school with my teacher and a few of my fellow French classmates; we liked Paris but my favorites were the Normandy beach/cemetery and all the chateaus in the Loire Valley. I am a country girl at heart.
