Taking In Life Around Me.....#SundayStills....Theme: Color Gray

This weeks theme for #SundayStills is a color challenge, and the color is "gray".  This challenge is hosted by Terrie from Second Wind Leisure. Here is where to find her current post. I've also been loving visiting the blogs of the other participants and being inspired by their interpretations of the theme.

On to this weeks theme. Do you spell it Gray or Grey? I've always used Gray but sometimes I find myself changing it. It's a color that probably gets little attention, it's a word that always seems "bland, lifeless". In fact when I decided to stop coloring my hair at 50 (I'm now 52), I opted to use the word "silver" because it sounded "better" than "gray". It's a word to define that which is between black and white...not really an absolute, but a "gray area", not real clear. I have always tended to be a "black and white" person, not really prone to linger in the gray, although in recent years I realize there are more gray areas out there. I meant to head out to find some things that I felt would represent this thought but I forgot my camera the one time we went out and about. So we'll just get on with the photos I chose.
This guy was at the Fort Worth Zoo.
Me and my shadow walking down the road to get the mail last week. The gray asphalt that was at one time a jet black, but has weathered over time.
I came across this photo....walking up our hill in the fall...in all my gray splendor...haha...gray pants, gray shirt, gray hair...I mean silver hair. Lol.
These trees have a grayish tone to their bark. They sit at the front of our property and I'll be sad if we ever have to cut them down. I love them.
My journey to "silver" started 2 years ago. I was tired of coloring it. I have never paid to have it colored, my hair grows so fast, that it would be too expensive, then I started using henna when I wanted to get rid of toxic chemicals, but as my silver came in more, it was harder to cover with the henna and it didn't last as long. So I said forget it, I'm going to stop fighting it and embrace it. It was a journey, sometimes it was a struggle, but at some point there was no going back. This was Mother's Day 2020.

The weathered gray of the stockyards in Fort Woth.
Guard rails are never "pretty" but they offer a feeling of safety and peace of mind. I remember going up a windy road on the way to the top of a mountain. It was pretty much 1 1/2 lanes, barely, and NO guardrail. I was a nervous wreck!
This photo had very little color in it so I just removed it all. Sometimes a photo looks better when the color is removed.
When we were in NYC I remember thinking this gray walkway between those two brick buildings was cool. Definitely lots of gray in the city.
LOVED these red doors on this gray church. So pretty.

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Kirstin, your gray gallery is spectacular with the gray theme. Love that kangaroo! But you are the star of the show today with your silver hair. With your blue eyes and complexion "gray" looks amazing on you! 👏

    1. Thank you Terri, it has bene quite the journey to the gray...and interestingly, yes, my eyes look blue here but they are green, which they really shouldn't be as my dads are blue and my moms are brown. Mine were blue when I was born, but they turned green.

  2. Terrific examples of gray (my understanding is that “gray” is the American English spelling, “grey” is the British English spelling). I especially loved the gray church with the red doors. Yay for gray hair! So much healthier.

  3. Your "silver" hair looks great, Kristin. When I retired, I stopped coloring my hair too. Now it is mostly silver too! :) I am also a big fan of guardrails!
