Living Intentionally: Body, Soul and Spirit

Welcome back...to me. LOL. My hubby and I got away for a long weekend to celebrate our 24th anniversary. I decided to put writing on hold till we got back. However I did do a brief post and shared some pics of the house we stayed in. We had a great time at the coast even though it was rainy.

We are made up of 3 parts. Body, Soul, and Spirit, and I believe it is important to be intentional with each one. For each person it will look different and probably one will need more emphasis than another. Let's break them down and then take one at a time over the next days and weeks so you can see where you want to make some specific changes. Those changes don't have to be big, sometimes small steps lead to lasting results, at least they usually do for me.

Body = The physical structure of a person, that's obviously a no brainer.

Soul = The emotional part of human nature, a persons total self, the moral and emotional nature of human beings, man's mind, will and emotions.

Spirit = The inner true self of a person, the inner quality or nature of a person, animating or vital principle in man, your attitude to life or to other people....

You get the idea. We are Body, Soul and Spirit and it is vital that we are intentional with each one, doing our best to keep them healthy. Yet, how often are we not? Or maybe we are with one area, but not another. How often do we get up and do the same things we did the day before, exactly the same way. In order to make any changes to any area of our lives we have to be intentional because our habits or ways of doing things are so set at times, it's going to take work to make changes. But it can happen!

Today, take some time to think about each area of your life. Write out your own definitions...share them in the comments if you like. I love paraphrases. Tomorrow we'll begin jumping in to each area, starting with "body".

Ask yourself: What am I going to do to set the tone for being intentional? What works for me? Maybe it's a journal, maybe it's a list, maybe it's doodling and drawing out your ideas, maybe it's leaving sticky notes all over the house. Maybe it's enlisting a friend.

Are you having a hard time making "YOU" a priority, being intentional with and for "YOU"?  Taking care of yourself should be a necessity. Let me leave you with this quote from the book The Fringe Hours by Jessica Turner. It's a great book by the way, I highly recommend it.

"Choosing yourself is not wrong. The longer you go without taking time for yourself, the more resentment will fester, exhaustion will set in, and you will have nothing left to give--to anyone. Guilt has no place in the decision to take care of  yourself." Jessica N. Turner

  1. I've gained weight since moving to Oregon (with some family dynamics and such). I'm disappointed and my clothes are too tight. I have started working out twice a week and that has helped my frame of mind too. It's a slow start but one none the less.

    1. Great job...I have done terrible at working out. :( My motto is, just do something, just move. So twice a week is better than not at all. And at least you're moving!
