Recipe: Easy Homemade Pizza Dough

We love pizza, but rarely eat it. I don't want to buy the frozen stuff and we just never go out to pizza parlors...maybe  once or twice a year with the soccer team.

However we do love making it from scratch. I love knowing what ingredients are going into what I'm making. Just the other day I was pondering on the fact that is seems I'm always doing dishes, and that there are always a lot of dishes throughout the day. But it's because almost everything we make is homemade, not many microwave things here. Trust me, there are days I'd love to have more quick, convenient foods around the house.

Back to the pizza. The other day I found a recipe on Allrecipes that is so quick and easy it will become a regular on our pizza making days. When you make things from scratch, finding a recipe that is quick and easy is wonderful.

**Note
: I doubled this recipe and it made two pizzas.

Here's what you need for one 12-inch crust:

1 (.25) pkt of yeast (or 2 1/4 tsp yeast)
1 tsp. white sugar
1 c. warm water (110 degrees)
2 1/2 c. bread flour (I used all purpose)
2 Tbs. olive oil (I was low on this so used canola)
1 tsp. salt (I think I actually forgot this yesterday...I didn't even notice)
( I love the smell of yeast and bread dough...do you?)
In a medium bowl put water, yeast and sugar. Stir to combine then let stand till bubbly, about 10 minutes.
Add flour, salt and oil, stirring to combine. Let stand 5 minutes. I was doing this by hand so actually needed to knead in some of the flour (when it got too hard to stir), then I let it sit on my baking mat.
(I used my old baking sheets so I wouldn't scratch my new ones)
Pat or roll into a round. Transfer to a greased baking sheet and spread out with fingers.
Add toppings and bake in a 400 degree oven for 15-20 minutes or until done. I adjusted my temperature a few times to ensure my topping got heated through and the crust didn't burn.
Here's what I made:

One pizza with 1/2 pepperoni, cheese and olives, and 1/2 BBQ Chicken pizza with olives and peppers and mushrooms on a little part of it.

One pizza with 1/2 Pesto, Chicken, spinach, tomato, mushroom and olives, and 1/2 reg. pizza sauce with chicken.

I'll try this recipe this summer when we grill pizza outside. Yummy! Can't wait!

  3. PIZZA! PIZZA! Wow! Are the crusts of your pizzas crunchy? Hmmm… If that's so, I'm such a loser because I can't eat solid foods for this week because I had my dental implants in Los Angeles last week. I don't know why I suddenly crave for a lot of foods despite on the pain of my mouth. Good thing is my dentist prescribed me an effective pain reliever. If I'm totally healed next week, I will cook and eat a lot of pizza! Please God, make a miracle that I won't get fat after eating pizza!

  4. Jenna, the crusts are only crunchy if you roll them out thin. I had one thinner crust that was a bit crunchier, but the others were softer. They are super yummy and really easy!!
