P31 Gal Revisited

We are back again visiting our P31 gal. I can tell you that today I'm feeling "blah" and anything like a P31 gal. I'd like to sit in my chair all day and do nothing!! I may give myself permission to do that, but there are things that will drive me crazy if they don't get done.

Today we look at verse 12 of P31. It says...

New Century Version...she does him good and not harm for as long as she lives.

Message...Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life long.
New Living Translation...she brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life

Amplified...She comforts, encourages, and does him only good as long as there is life within her.

I love how the Amplified Bible words it. As long as there is life within me I want to encourage, comfort and do my hubby good! I want to treat him generously.

The word good means:  Best, better, precious, cheerful, loving, pleasant, agreeable, rich

Every word in this verse is an action. It is something that we consciously do or don't do. How are we actively treating our husbands? Are we comforters, encouragers, seeking his best, treating him as a precious treasure, bringing him happiness and joy, making his life rich?

This thought just came to me...what if you husband walked into the house and said "honey, I was just laid off of my job". What would your response be? At that moment, in a week, in a month? Comforter, encourager, builder of self-esteem? Or would you tear into him, and nag him daily about finding another job?

I know that I don't always walk out this verse perfectly. I try though. I really do! When my hubby told me that we were taking a pay cut (which pay isn't a lot anyways) I didn't lay into him. When he told me he wasn't sure when our house would get finished, I didn't lay into him. Was I bummed? Yes. Was I slightly irritated? Sure, but I chose to respond the way I thought would build him up.

Where do I fail at times? When my hubby is sick. I'm not always the best comforter. I want to say "suck it up and quit complaining?" Why? Because that's what I do when I'm sick. Life goes on baby. People need to be fed, the house needs to be cleaned. I need to work on that. Men just are not made the way we are to handle sickness!

"She actively loves him, always desiring his best and never displeases or hurts him intentionally."

One thing that really helps ladies is if we take time to recognize how our husbands are individually "made". When we know that, we will know how to give them comfort and encouragement. If we have a  heart to heart connection with our husbands we would never want to do anything that would break their heart or our connection. We want to please them, not because we are doormats, but because it brings us joy!

I know there are things that "do my hubby good", things that make him feel good when he is home. I personally might not care, but he does, so I do my best to take care of those things. If he's out of town, I might let it slide a little...chuckle. It does him good when he's been really busy and we chip in and get some things done that maybe he might normally do. It does him good when I send him e-mails every morning to his office encouraging his day! It does him good when I pack him healthy snacks and lunches to take to the office.

What are ways you do your husband good?

With Joy UNquenchable,

  1. I am loving this series!
We are in the midst of moving (as you know, which we do not have a definitive date), and the spiritual battles have been intense.
This was such a fabulous reminder to do good to my husband! Thank you!
Normally, I am much better about thinking about him, but lately, its been sliding. I am going to get back on it.
