Kitchen Tip Tuesday: Cream of Tarttar replacement

On Sunday my youngest daughter and her friend wanted to make Snickerdoodles. I got them set up and then realized I did not have cream of tartar. UH-OH!! They really wanted to make them so I set out to find a substitute. Many sites weren't thrilled with the idea of substituting anything for cream of tartar but recommended trying baking powder. I gave it a try and it worked. My recipe called for 2 tsp. cream of tartar and 1 tsp. baking soda. I replaced both of those with 4 tsp. baking powder. Here are a few other suggestions: For : 1 tsp. cream of tartar use 2 tsp. lemon juice or vinegar For: One teaspoon baking powder is equivalent to 1/4 teaspoon baking soda plus 5/8 teaspoon cream of tartar. If there is additional baking soda that does not fit into the equation, simply add it to the batter. Head over to Tammie's Recipes for more great tips. With Joy UNquenchable,
