Kitchen Tip Tuesday: Homemade powdered sugar
Have you ever reached in your cupboard to look for some powdered sugar and realized you didn't have any? Not fun! Several months ago that was the case in our house. We simply wanted some to top a cake with. There was no way I was going to the store for only one thing so we improvised. I had seen in one of our Vita-Mix (though I'm sure this would work with any blender) that you could make homemade powdered sugar simply by blending at a high speed regular granulated sugar. Guess what? It worked! So next time you're in a bind, pop some sugar in the blender and mix away.
Tammy host's Kitchen Tip Tuesday, and I always find something I didn't know over there.
Coming up next, a recipe for Crockpot Scalloped Potatoes.
cool! good to know:)
ReplyDeleteI just got my Vita Mix last month and I didn't know you could do this with it. That is very good to know. I would be interested in anything else you make with your Vita Mix too. So far I've only made a couple of smoothies.
ReplyDeletehow cool, I am so going to try this.
ReplyDeleteI wish Kitchen Tips were on Mondays! I could have really used this tip yesterday when I ran out of powdered sugar mid-recipe. Oh well, better late than never. That's one thing that I always seem to never have on hand, so I'm very grateful to know this for next time.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great tip for:
ReplyDelete- Passover (the kosher-for-Passover powdered sugar (that uses potato starch instead of corn starch) is pricey!
- anyone with a corn allergy
- or anyone who doesn't use powdered sugar often.
Great tip. I'll have to try it some time.
