Recipe: Sour Cream Drop Biscuits

I'm going to post an update on life hopefully after this post. We'll see what happens.
My mom always made these biscuits. They were some of my favorites. Moist and super yummy! The thing I did different when I made them was I added a bit more flour, kneaded them and then cut them out. Still turned out perfect!
I served them with my ham and bean soup to which I added lots of carrots, potatoes and yummy spinach.
These biscuits would be just as good topped with strawberries and whipped cream, or sausage and biscuits, or just topped with honey or jam.
Sour Cream Drop Biscuits
2 c. all purpose flour
2 Tbs. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. sour cream
3 tbs. baking powder
Preheat oven to 450. Combine flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Combine milk and sour cream and stir into flour mixture. At this point I added a bit more flour and then dumped it onto my board. I added a bit more flour and kneaded it several times. Roll it out and cut with a 3 3/4" cookie cutter...I like big biscuits. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes. If you desire just to drop them on the cookie sheet, then don't add any extra flour.

Enjoy!

The dough was so nice and fluffy!

  2. We loved these biscuits. Since we were going out of town, I froze 1/2 the batch and cannot wait to be able to pop them out for another good breakfast.
