Where does Time go?

I'm telling you...I must have had a lot of time on my hands before we moved into our new house. I suppose that would be true since I didn't have an entire house to clean, etc...Now it seems I barely have time to post, let alone visit. Which makes me sad since I love visiting all your blogs and seeing what is going on. Plus I've missed some great giveaways. Oh, well!
I still haven't taken pictures of some of the things we've added to the house and I may or may not get to that, we'll see. It is looking more homey though and that's nice.
Yesterday I spent several hours cleaning out the closet under our stairs. It needed more organizing than cleaning. I got rid of two brown boxes and one storage container. I re-organized and filled one of those rolling carts with drawers full of craft items that I had gotten from my mom after she passed away.
This is just a sample of some of the fabrics that she had. My mom was great at crafting and loved making fun items especially at Christmas when she and my dad would sell things at bazaars. Anyways, there was a lot of fun fabric and I have a great idea that I'm going to do with it for my sister and I.There were also gobs and gobs of buttons. There were at least 5 of these stacking containers, and a huge jar which I transferred into the two smaller jars below so I could fit them in the drawers. I can't wait to find fun projects to use these with. One Christmas my mom took one of those styrofoam trees and mounted it on a block of wood that she had painted white. She then covered the block with a doily and then covered it with buttons and ribbon. She also decorated painted wooden hearts with ribbon and buttons.  I organized my scrapbooking stuff and found all the girls scrapbooks that my mom had done for them and that I had started. They had fun looking through them and are going to keep them in their rooms on their bookshelf. It was so fun looking through all the pictures. I'm not sure if I'll ever scrapbook that way again...it's time consuming, takes more creativity than I feel I have sometimes and I don't have a space yet that I can just work and leave everything out. I really love the new photobooks that you can make online....this might be the route I go for the rest of their pics. We'll see what happens.
Last night for dinner I was so consumed with cleaning things that I hadn't give much thought to eating dinner..whoops. I decided to throw together a chicken potpie with drop biscuits. I found a yummy sour cream biscuit recipe at www.homemadewithlove.wordpress.com. The recipe was: 2 c. flour, 1 Tbs. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1/2 c. butter and 1/2 c. sour cream. I added just a scooch of milk, and used nonfat plain yogurt instead of sour cream.  Nan ended up mixing it up with her hands, which she didn't complain at all about. We rolled them out (because Nan wanted to use the rolling pin) and placed them on top of the chicken mixture. For the filling I sauteed some onion in melted butter and then added flour. I had a bit of whipping cream leftover so I used that with some milk and chicken broth. Also a chicken bouillon cube, thyme, garlic powder and pepper. I threw in a bag of frozen mixed veggies and diced potatoes. Finally the chicken. Baked it at 425 and in 30 minutes took it out of the oven. Mmmmmm good! I loved the flavor of these biscuits and think this will be my new way of doing potpies.
Yesterday we also had about 2 inches of snow. It's now gone and given way to rain. That's okay, no one is in any hurry for more snow.
So life has been busy and I'm trying to learn how to juggle caring for a larger home and still doing the things I enjoy and love. I'll get in to visit my favorite blogs as I'm able. Okay, off to do some laundry and get dressed, the girls have hair appointments this afternoon so I should look somewhat decent.

  1. You must be kidding! Too tired to cook. Now I like to cook and all but that is not what I make when I run out of time. We are talking grabbing something out (if funds) or quesadillas or something easy like that!! :)
I am ready for our adventure...wheeeeeeeeee

  5. Hopefully you will be able to find the right balance soon. It's tough to settle down after a big move. It seems like a schedule goes out the door for a bit everytime a lifechange occurs.

Thinking of you and wishing you well,
    Jen
