First Night in our house
Well, we spent the first night in the house. It was so nice. Very quiet and very dark (no street lights or car lights). I slept so good!! We are still in the "between two places", but hopefully after today I'll have everything up here. I'm going back down to the other house today to get the rest of the stuff and what I don't take from the garage, organize so it's neat. Then vacuum and clean the bathroom. Next week I'll go shampoo some of the carpets there. We'll also get any other stuff we have stored at our friends house next week as well. Tomorrow the bank inspector comes so anything we have here needs to be organized or stored neatly away somewhere.
I did take a few pictures, but not as many as I would have liked...we were all so busy moving and unpacking. The stove should come in today or tomorrow as well as our cabinet hardware. I have quite a bit of storage in the kitchen which is nice. I realized I had a lot of depression glass from my mom (she had bought my sister and I each sets over the years, mine is pink cherry blossom and I can't remember what my sisters was...it was green though). so I'm trying to decide if I want to take up space in my cupboards or just store it till I can get a nice hutch to display it in. Hubby would say "sell it" if we're never going to use it....such a guy in that sense.
It was nice to see my stand mixer again. It and I had a moment together. And I made my first pot of coffee in my kitchen last night and shared it with my father in law who kindly came over to hook up my washer and dryer. I don't know how many times I ran up and down the stairs yesterday (exercise (C:).
For now I've just placed things in cupboards but I know I'll move them around as I decide what works best where. I already know a few things to be moved. Once hubby has my pantry shelves done I'll move things there and free up more space.
We had mice visit our furniture while in storage so we are going to have it cleaned. No telling what they left behind other than their droppings (no nests though), and hubby would rather just pay to have it done right and try to do it ourselves. Fine with me (though I know, not very frugal), but we have a busy weekend with a conference and it would be nice to just get it done.
I've had to wash a lot of things since they had that musty smell...I somehow don't know how I've managed to have 11 bowls and salad plates and only 7 dinner dishes....hmmmmm. As I unpacked them I realized that they match my kitchen walls perfectly. When I get my pictures off my camera I'll post them. I purchased them before we moved at Big Lots or .99 each and love them.
Well, I think I'll go unpack some more. Be back later this evening hopefully to post some pics.
Oh, it was so nice to drive up to the house and see the house lights on. It looked so cozy and inviting. The stars were amazing as well. Because we don't have street lights or lights from town, the stars are so much brighter than just down the hill. Soon, I'll have to get the candles out. I'm really having a hard time finding things. Yikes!!
Im so excited for you. I moved into my new kitchen (an addition on the house) 8 years ago and I am still rearranging and finding better ways to make the kitchen work for me. Its an ongoing process. LOL
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a house away from the lights of town. The stars really do look wonderful that way. Congratulations! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful site you have. Loving my trip to your spot on the blogosphere this morning. Your photos are amazing, especially the one in your header. Did you take the shot of the sunflower?
ReplyDeleteUnpacking is definitely not the most fun activity in the world, but I find it is worth it in the end. Always allows me to organize properly and get my house started off on the right foot.
Good luck!
I am SOOO very excited for you!! What a wonderful feeling to be IN your own home again. Congrats to you and your hubby for making it through. We hope to be there someday :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you!
Thanks so much for your e-mail yesterday. It was wonderful of you to respond so quickly.
ReplyDeleteI do love your sunflower!
Isn't it amazing how little we can actually live without? Our dialog has inspired me to start looking around my house and figure out how I might be able to get rid of unnecessary clutter. Just the inspiration I needed, so thank you!
