Refinishing advice

I have been using this dresser for a few years. It was from my MIL. I love it but it is showing wear and age and I'd love to refinish it. Any advice out there about the best ways to do it. Do I have to strip it, or can I just sand it and paint it. I'd love to give it an antiqued look, maybe black or white...any thoughts?

  2. I would say sand it WELL and then paint it...you shouldn't have to strip it unless there is a large build up on it...do make sure you sand it down to the wood though and that there is no more finish on it before painting or the paint won't stick!!
Can't wait to see the finished product!!

  3. My husband just finished our old kitchen table-it looks so nice now. He did it with an electric sander-if I remember correctly. Your dresser is a beautiful model. Blessings, Rose

  4. Thank you ladies for your advice. I don't know when I'll get around to it....maybe this spring, or right before we move...or after we move....who knows! But I will get it done because I really do like it. I need to get new hardware as well.

    Mrs. Darling:
I got the header from free foto. I had to put my title on it in Photoshop because the header thing on blogger messed up a lot of peoples headers.
