Our New Home

For 11 years we lived in a single story ranch in a great neighborhood. But our house was small for the amount of people we regularly have in it and we have always wanted property. Here where we live, property is expensive or so far out of town that it just wasn't practical. A few years ago a two acre parcel opened up for us to purchase at a great price. We knew the type of house we wanted to build, and new that we would build it ourselves (so we could have the home we wanted). So we embarked (or I should say are embarking) on the journey. As you can see from the pictures, we're building in phases. Hopefully each phase only within a few years of each other. We are relying alot on the provision of God. He's been amazing thus far. We've called our property the "Kingdom Property" because we want it to be used for the work of His Kingdom here on earth. I thought I'd share the houseplans with you because I truly love it. I've always wanted covered porches and we will have them front and back. I'll send real pictures another time. This is the exterior of the home. Front and back. The first phase is the garage area, which we will stain the floor, paint the walls, etc.. and live in that section till we build the second phase.
We actually had a little space upstairs in the first phase that would be perfect for a washer and dryer so we put a hookup there. In this first phase the laundry room downstairs will function as the kitchen as well, so now we'll put the washer/dryer upstairs and use the laundry as a kitchen. The bonus rooms will be used as bedrooms for now, later will be office space or guest or media rooms.
I love the laundry room pantry. We revamped the pantry a bit by opening it up into the laundry room, so it will be a larger walk in style pantry. Hard to explain, but looks cool...I'll have to send pics sometime. For now the laundry room will be a kitchen, but later will give me lots of room for crafts and storage.
My husband does such an amazing job. I'm so proud of all the work he's put into it. Anything we can do ourselves or figure out how to do, we've done. We'd love to be able to pay someone to do it, but not to get the quality we want...just not in the budget.
So....thought I'd share this major project with all of you! I will take some recent pictures soon and send them along.

  1. What a terrific idea to build in stages! Even if it takes longer than you hope, I know it will be worth it in the end. And it looks beautiful! I would love to be able to find some land at a good price so we could do this too. Blessings on your venture!

  6. Oh, how exciting to build your own home! My washer and dryer are in the cellar, and I don't have a dedicated craft room/office, so your plans sound wonderful to me! Good luck worth it!
