#WQWWC.....Theme: Forgotten

It's another week of  Writer's Quotes Wednesday, hosted by Marsha from Always Write. If you're interested in joining, you can find more about #WQWWC here.

This weeks theme is forgotten. That word, like all others can take on so many meanings.

Forget:
*fail to remember
*inadvertently neglect to do, bring, or mention something
*put out of ones mind; cease to think about or consider.
*Stop thinking about ones own problems or feelings

To be forgotten:
*To lose the remembrance of
*be unable to think of or recall
*obsolete
*to treat with inattention or disregard

No one wants to be forgotten or to forget. I hate being forgetful. I hate forgetting what I walked into a room to do or get. I hate forgetting the story I was going to tell someone. Last night I lay in bed and 2 or 3 things came to my mind that I forgot I needed to do so I had to set alarms on my phone so I'd remember.

It breaks my heart to see dementia and alzheimer's steal peoples memories causing them to forget so much.

It's sad when people we care about forget our special days, or just don't take time to remember to ask how we're doing.

I often forget peoples names...not close friends of course, but sometimes I just draw a a blank with someone I know I should know. I've forgotten to put a certain ingredient in a recipe. Forgetfulness is a part of everyday life.

Several years ago we were going through a tough transition, life was just weird, and I was constantly forgetting things on the stove. One day I was making hard boiled eggs. I realized I needed to go to the store so my daughter went with me and as we walked out of Walmart (7 minutes from our home, we were probably gone already 7 +another 10 minutes), and I yelled "oh my gosh, the eggs". I called my MIL who lives 2 minutes down the hill, saying "I left eggs on the stove, please go up and turn the stove off". Needless to say the eggs had exploded, the house had some smoke in it, and it smelled bad. Oh boy, I've done it with beets too. And get this...my husband works for a disaster restoration company...you know, if you have a fire, water damage, flooding, smoke damage, they come and take care of it. I try to joke and say "well, I just want to keep you guys in business." He doesn't find the humor in it, nor do they need help staying in business.

Here are some quotes I found that as I read them, spoke to me, at some level.

Thank goodness, because I don't remember a whole lot of particulars from school. I'd also add that much of "education" and learning comes through everyday living.

YES! Do we want our lives and what we leave behind to be remembered or forgotten. I think it matters the examples we set..to our children, to our family and friends, to people we encounter. What does our life say and project. Not in a fake way. Goodness, we want to be real, and transparent but also bringing hope, and joy and "hey, you can approach life this way instead of that way and have a much better outcome".

As someone who loves photography and is always taking pictures, this is so true. Sometimes look back at photos and they allow me to remember little details of a trip, or a memory of a person. If it was a really long time ago, it helps me to imagine what life might have been like.

How well I know this...have you ever had someone say things to you and while you've let those words go, sometimes, they play back in your mind, usually when you are feeling vulnerable, tired, discouraged. It only makes me try to frame my words well, so that even if things need to be said, they are said in a loving way. Of course, we get to choose what we do with any words that are spoken to us.

Hmmmm...this one definitely provokes some thought doesn't it?

With Joy Unquenchable,
Kirstin

  1. Beautiful and funny post, Kirstin. Your poor husband. I can identify with leaving things on the stove - usually before we have someone over for dinner while cooking something smelly like broccoli - LOL. Our stove knobs here in Prescott turn on if you accidentally touch them with your tummy when you use the microwave. I've found burners burning or smelled gas a couple of times when I thought everything was off. My husband is bad with cold things. He constantly forgets to shut the freezer door completely. I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving and everything gets turned off. I hope I don't forget to take anything when we go to Vince's sister's house. :)

    1. Oh goodness. We are getting gas for the first time in our addition and it does make me a bit nervous.
