Kitchen Tip Tuesday: Quick and Easy tip for Freezing Blueberries

Head over to Tammy's Recipes for more tips and yummy recipes. Later this morning I'm going to be freezing blueberries. And it'll probably only take us a mere 1/2 hour. My family loves blueberries, and so every year I'd buy flats of berries, wash them, remove the stems, pre-freeze them before bagging and freezing them for good. It took awhile. Then last year I discovered a secret. Our local berry grower who also freezes and ships their berries to other locations said I could just buy them already frozen in a 30# box. For the same price as buying them fresh. All I do is freeze them anyways, so this saved a ton of time. We simply brought the boxes home and began scooping out berries into quart size bags to be put in the freezer. Oh, I love this idea. When I bought my strawberries a few years back, they even stemmed them for me since I was going to be making jam with all of it. So don't be afraid to ask growers if they offer either of these services. I know some of you love the whole process of washing berries, etc...I would too, but if I can save time, I will.
Nan was my helper last year. This was how the berries came. Big, fat blueberries. Available anytime of year I want to buy them.
Can you guess what they'll be doing today?

  1. We grow our own blueberries but, hmmm, I wonder if the strawberry farm I go to would do this. I'll have to check.

  2. Mrs. D..I plan to grow some berries on our property, but for the amount that my family consumes, I don't think I could grow enough (C: They probably would consume over 100 pounds easily in a year, if not more, simply becasue they put them in everything, especially smoothies.

  3. The northwest and the berries :( I miss them so much. When we were in Oregon we would pick the wild blackberries by the bucket. It was great fun and very yummy!!!!

Does your grower ship to Arizona? :)

Hey I tagged you if you want to play along.
